We are a London-based web business developing the first international crowd-sourcing platform for home architecture and design. Simply put, Matchik connects homeowners to a global network of talented architects, interior and landscape designers.
Matchik aims to showcase and promote young architects, interior and landscape designers across the world, helping them to kick-start their careers by building international reputations and ultimately finding customers.
We came up with the idea for Matchik when we kept hearing the same story from our architect and designer friends: there just aren't enough opportunities around. We decided to investigate. With millions of existing houses sold in the UK alone each year and a billion pound DIY market, it is clear that there should be plenty of opportunities for those in the home design field.
However, figures show that architecture is the profession that has been hit hardest by recession. Something wasn't making sense here, so we dug a little deeper, talked to some more people and found that in fact homeowners have been designing their own extensions, interior decor and gardens due to the high fees charged by architects and designers. So one the one hand we have thousands of homeowners who could use some help with their home renovation projects and on the other we have thousand of young talented architects and designers looking to build their portfolios and get their work seen. We started thinking about how we can match up these sets of needs on a global scale and thus Matchik was born.
Designers use the site to build a global reputation by sketching for projects worldwide, to showcase and promote their portfolio or to search for local projects and design opportunitie. Homeowners use the site to generate free sketches for a specific project, to simply browse portfolios for ideas or to find and hire their ideal architect or designer.
